The start of something new . . .

We had a really productive corps Council meeting. We brainstormed about the values of each person present – what is really important TO YOU in a church? Then we asked for thrills (what do you LOVE about this church)and chills (what really bothers you). It was interesting but over and over again the warm welcome, the friendliness the acceptance shown – those things kept coming up. Good foundation!

Then we talked about five purposes of the church (there might be more) and we saw how each of the values that they had all listed fit within five purposes – evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, worship, and ministry. We presented in a new light – HEART to God, Hand To Man. H – Harvesting Lost Souls, Encouraging Others, Adoring Him, Remaining in Him, Training for Service. Easy to remember, something to hold on to.

We talked especially about the idea that if we want to invite friends to church, we need to have something that will grab them and bring them back. So we are going to work on a Celebration Sunday in the fall – gearing up with attention-getting music, building & property repairs (it's an OLD building – over 100 years old), times of the service (changing it to earlier so we can get out earlier), adding a sunday meal to follow the service on Sunday.

I think it went well – they seem excited – I don't think we picked too many goals – one or two from each area – and we will try to highlight them in a program bulletin insert to keep the fire going.

It's always fun to be around when a woman is pregnant and ready to give birth . . . . .This church just got pregnant!
