While Don was delivering the precious grant to the powers that be, Bethany and I went out looking at schools. It's so hard – because we live so far away from where we work – so do we get a transfer to where we work so it's easier to pick them up for afternoon/evening programs? Do we stop in the middle of the day to go get them from school – which essentially ends the day of work. . .
and Grace is in high school – so her school is where we work – so that means we have to be in two places at one time – unless there is a bus system . . IS there a bus system?
What about charter schools? I know they focus in different areas - how do we know which one will be best for our kids? So many questions . . .
I have very strong convictions about education . ..and I don't want to ever think I have compromised on what God has made very clear to us . ..
So, what we found was a very small school one mile away from us for grades 4 – 8. It is the one that the kids in our neighborhood will go too – and there is a bus that comes to the neighborhood which will solve the problem of having to go get them. At their age, the girls can be home alone until we get there and pick them up for Troops or whatever.
Grace – there lies the other problem. We are still exploring options – she is so musically minded right now - there is a charter school for arts (wonder if it includes music?). The high school is absolutely huge – every small district for miles goes to the same high school – and it will be quite a culture shock for someone who has had 8-10 kids in her class.
The real problem lies in the fact that school starts 3 days after we get back from vacation – picking everyone up from their various locations around the world. Not much time to decompress from summer living to school life. I'm thinking they will enjoy the weekends!
