EDS in ACTION . . .

Sunday morning while we were having church, an apartment building was burning down. 13 people - all seniors - were displaced out their homes, 2 or 3 hospitalized.

Monday morning, Don was on the phone with Red Cross, finding out how we could help. He went and met with each of the survivors (in EDS training, I learned we don't call them victims, they are survivors! I love that) and talked with them about what they needed.

Two of them had lost their dentures - but praise God - today they were both returned to them - unharmed from the fire (one had fallen into a bucket of water and was protected from the heat). Another man said that he was disoriented because he didn't have his reading glasses. Fortunately, he wore the same strength as Don does (it's the age thing . . .sigh) and so Don gave him his glasses . . .assuring him that he had another pair at home.

Tomorrow we will go to the hotel they are staying at, give them vouchers for the thrift store so they can get new clothes (well, new to them at least . . .LOL) and arrange rides for them and meals and prayer.

I think I will go see the lady in the hospital - she had several oxygen tanks blow up in her apartment. I'll be praying for her tonight.

Things can happen so quickly - one moment you are sleeping, the next someone is banging on your door - "GET out, get out, get out!" No time to get anything or even get dressed. Just get out.

Will I be ready when the time comes?
