Car Shows & Duck Races

what fun! We went to the Roamin Angels Antique Car Show - over 800 cars. Took the girls who didn't want to go . . but ended up having fun in spite of themselves. Our Advisory Board chairman is the President of this group - and our bookkeeper and her husband have a car they are working on bit by bit.

Earlier, we had gone to another community event - the Duck Races. The Rotary Club sponsors it each year in Nevada City and they literally have duck races. Okay, they are rubber ducks but there are probably 1000 of them - andthey are released about 1/4 mile upstream and we all watch as they make their way to the finish line. You buy tickets which represent a duck and if your duck wins, you get prizes. An advisory board had bought several tickets, turned them in with The Salvation Army name, andthen gave us the tickets. I went with the girls - they had mexican food, music, fun. it was neat but the girls got bored - that is, until we won $75!!!!

We strolled through Nevada City, meandered through the street farmers market, and tried pear balsamic vinaigrette, of all things. We passed the history Nevada City hotel where I meet for Rotary . . .all part of a life that sometimes seems unrelated to the population group that we serve. It seems like another world - that occasionally meets - at Duck Races and Antique Car Shows.

I think it is important to support the Advisory Board in their lives - just like we want them to support us in our life. They usually are the ones who have their finger on the pulse of the community - so if you attach yourself to their coat tails, you get to know the community - and you just might have fun along the way.

Goooooooooo, Ducks!
(Oh, wait - i'm in California now . . .darn!)
